Matica System Provides Chip Card Issuance Systems for ABnote NA
ABnote NA Expands Personalization Capabilities in North America Using Matica® S7000 Systems
Milan, Italy – August23, 2013 – Matica System, a leading worldwide company that designs, manufactures and markets card personalization and mailing systems as well as ID card printers and metal plate embossers, is pleased to announce that ABnote™ North America, a division of American Banknote Corporation (the ABnote Group), the leading North American supplier of secure printed products, documents, and related services, has selected the Matica S7000 card personalization system to issue financial cards from its new secure bureau in Boston, MA.
To ensure a seamless transition to EMV issuance, ABnote’s card bureau, whose services include print production, personalization, secure warehousing, distribution, and fulfillment, recently purchased two Matica® S7000 systems, which include modules for contact and contactless chip encoding, thermal and/or color printing, embossing, tipping, indenting, and activation labeling.
ABnote intends to become the primary supplier of card solutions for the imminent North American migration to EMV standards, and anticipates that the installation of its new, independent Matica® production line will help them reach that goal.
“With the looming mandates and schedules surrounding EMV card issuance in the United States, ABnotewas looking for a partner to provide card personalization machinery with an open interface that would allow them maximum flexibility both for EMV chip personalization and data infrastructure. Matica’s open architecture and license-free chip interfaces, proven reliability and US-based support infrastructure were keys to meeting ABnote’s requirements of high card quality and consistent uptime” said Jonathan Bowen, US Business Development Manager for Matica System.
One of the biggest benefits to ABnoteis the S7000’s ability to encode contact and contact-less chip cards quickly without the being tied to expensive and proprietary encoding software and hardware licensing fees. The flexible and open interface of the Matica S7000 reduces the per-card cost of chip card issuance, and is just one of the reasons Matica card personalization systems are used worldwide to issue millions of chip cards every year.
The S7000 system is one of the most flexiblemodular card personalization systems available today. Configuration options are nearly unlimited and allow users to personalize cards quickly and efficiently while conserving floor space and keeping equipment costs low. The system can also be linked in line with aMatica mailing system to provide a complete turnkey card issuance and fulfillment solution. Its modularity also helps to meet future market demands by allowing fieldupgrades to add or enhance personalization capabilitiesthrough the installation ofnew modules and stations, but without any added software licensing fees normally associated with system upgrades.
There is clearly a huge opportunity in the U.S. for smart cards and contactless cards,” says John Ekers, CIO of ABnote. “With our global experience and expertise in supplying EMV and other chip based cards, ABnote is well positioned to meet the needs of this market. After an industry-wide search, we have selected Matica as our next generation platform, because of its reliability, flexibility and pricing. And the open architecture is definitely a plus, and has been easy to integrate into our systems.”
